Stay Woke And Recognize Who "They" God Really Is - Actions Speak Louder Than Words

I remember some years ago reading a publication by a psychologist who posed a simple but powerful question: “What does your God look and sound like?”

At the time, I thought, Wow, that’s interesting.
For me, God has always looked and sounded like His Word. The Bible describes God in so many ways—Mighty, Holy, Merciful, All-Knowing, Alpha and Omega. And Jesus Christ? The Good Shepherd. The Prince of Peace. The Bread of Life. The Way, the Truth, and the Life.

These names and descriptions have always been the framework of how I’ve understood who God is.

But this morning, as I pondered that question again, I realized it has a much deeper meaning.

I remember gospel artist Kirk Franklin once saying that when he sees his brother or sister, he sees God. He was referring to the scripture that says we were made in the image of God. And that made me think—maybe what the writer of that publication was really getting at is this: By knowing you, I can decide whether I want to know your God.

Jesus understood this well. He often told people plainly, “Your father is the devil,” or “You are of your father, the devil.”How did He know? He discerned it through their behavior—their patterns, their intentions, the fruit of their lives.

None of us are perfect. We all fall short. But if a person’s intentions and actions are consistently evil, manipulative, selfish, or aimed at harming others, their life speaks volumes about who their “father” is. If they never keep their word. I would have someone borrow money and never pay it back.

The Bible warns that the enemy walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

By contrast, Jesus said, “I have come that you may have life, and have it abundantly.”

Likewise, if someone is kind, loving, caring, and always seeking to help and be a blessing, it’s safe to say they reflect the heart of God. But don’t mistake kindness for weakness. Just because a person is Godly doesn’t mean they are defenses or weak.

There’s a growing misconception that equates evil with strength. But if that were true, why did demons tremble at the very Name of Jesus? I remember when witches feared a genuine man or woman of God—because true power isn’t found in darkness, but in the light. People of God walk in your authority and do so boldly.

So maybe, when we’re asked, “What does your God look like?” the real question is: When I meet you, am I also meeting your God? Because before we ever quote a scripture, people are already reading the one we live.
