Apple Wallet (part of Apple Pay) now supports adding a digital driver’s license or state ID in select U.S. states and territories.
✅ Where It’s Available (as of August 2025)
You can currently upload your ID in:
Arizona
California
Colorado
Georgia
Hawaii
Iowa
Maryland
Montana
New Mexico
Ohio
Puerto Rico (U.S. territory)
🔑 Important Notes
Still keep your physical ID. Even in supported states, the digital version is not yet accepted everywhere. Some places—like TSA checkpoints at certain airports—may take it, but many police departments, government offices, and businesses still require the physical card.
If you’ve misplaced your ID:
Unfortunately, you cannot use Apple Wallet to replace a lost driver’s license or state ID. To add your ID to Apple Wallet, you must already have a valid physical one to verify your identity during setup.
If your ID is lost, you’ll need to request a replacement from your state’s DMV first. Once you receive the new card, you can then add it to Apple Wallet.
👉 Bottom line: Apple Wallet is making it easier to carry your ID securely on your iPhone or Apple Watch—but it’s not a full replacement yet. Think of it as a convenient backup for travel and select check-ins, not a substitute if your physical ID goes missing.
