There were people of all different fitness levels in that class—some were seasoned athletes, others were clearly just starting their journey. But what stood out wasn’t their experience; it was their energy. Everyone in that room was pushing themselves. And just being surrounded by that determination lit something in me. Suddenly, I realized…I’ve been holding back.
I wasn’t operating at my full capacity—physically or mentally. But I had people cheering me and each other on, giving high fives, even throwing some fun, playful shade here and there. It wasn’t the kind of competition where people tear each other down. It was lighthearted, supportive, and motivating.
One moment that really struck me was seeing a mother and daughter working out together. They were encouraging each other every step of the way. It reminded me how important it is to have people around you who push you, love you, and challenge you—all at the same time.
That class wasn’t just a workout. It was a reminder that community matters. Being in an environment where people cheer for you, hold you accountable, and believe in you—whether you believe in yourself or not—can change everything.
I left that class knowing one thing for sure: I’ve spent too much time around the wrong people and in spaces that didn’t stretch me. I’ve been around people who didn’t wish me the best, push me to grow, or want me to win too. Today, I promised myself—never again.
From here on out, I’m only making room for people and communities that pour into me, challenge me, and help me become the best version of myself.
Because I now realize that my advancement isn’t just about what’s inside of me—but it’s about who’s beside you.
