A Misogynist, Spiritual Gatekeeping - Why Can’t Women Preach And Lead At Your Church Dr Carl Turner

Dr. Carl Turner has one of those “only God could do it” stories — and trust me, he never misses a chance to tell it. Bragging about the good ole days

If you attended his church in Charlotte, you’ve probably heard it: once upon a time, Turner was running them streets in Charlotte, slanging cr**k like it was communion wafers. He was a brick mason. LOL

Vietnam vet by day, neighborhood hustler by night — the man was basically living the uncut version of Boosie’s song, "Wake Up." As the late, great Biggie would say, “trying to feed his daughter” — only in this case, it was just him and some questionable life choices.

Eventually, the hustle caught up. One day, he had his own made-for-TV showdown with the police. A one-on-one street revival — only without the Holy Ghost. That encounter landed him in the pen for years.

But plot twist: he had a praying auntie.

You know the type — long skirts, prayer cloths, and the kind of tongues that’ll shake the prison bars loose. She called on the name of the Lord, and somewhere between commissary and corrections, Turner caught the Holy Ghost.

And let me say — amen to redemption! At 35, he got out, turned his life around, married a good woman, and had a son. Sounds like a full-circle moment, right?

Well… not exactly.

Because in true Turner fashion, the pulpit only has room for one preacher. And spoiler alert — it ain’t his son.

That’s right. Despite raising a young man in the faith, mentoring dozens of sons in ministry, and preaching about legacy every other Sunday, Turner has mysteriously not passed the mic to his own flesh and blood. It's giving “I love you, but don’t touch my spotlight.” Kingdom nepotism, but make it selective.

And The Real Question: Where Are the Women?

Even more curious than his selective mentorship style is his spiritual landscaping. Turner builds churches like it’s a construction hobby, but you know what’s always missing?

Women in leadership.

Now listen — the man has an apostolic anointing, sure. He lays hands, casts out demons, and wears designer.

But if you're a woman with a call on your life? Sis, you better grab an usher badge, a vacuum, or just sit cute, and clap on beat. Because elevation is not on the menu.

Word in these church halls several women have been uninvited and overlooked….

He only allows his wife to speak on Mother’s Day

How can you not promote and support women when it was a woman who prayed you through, bailed you out, and helped lead you to salvation?

Independent women? Too threatening.
Anointed women? Too visible.
Preaching women? Whew… might as well be witchcraft.

Sometime ago he spoke about how he wasn’t a fan of Dr Juanita Bynum.

Now yes she can be rough around the edges but for goodness sakes not liking a successful woman in ministry is a bit disappointing.

Dear Dr. Turner…

We love a good redemption story, but let’s not act like transformation just ends with a prison release and a church launch.

While that’s an awesome idea, real Kingdom work includes elevating women too, breaking chains, and yes — sharing the mic.

So Dr. Turner, with all due respect: if you can trust God to turn your life around, surely you can trust Him to use a woman to preach the gospel. And maybe even give your son a shot while you’re at it.

Because your legacy in building churches is great — but building people is also necessary? That’s the real legacy.
