I am still speechless.
The inauguration of new leadership at The Potter’s House in Dallas was nothing short of historic. Bishop T.D. Jakes and Lady Serita Jakes, thank you.
Thank you for showing us what legacy looks like in motion. The entire service reminded me of what Black Church has always meant to us—excellence, culture, reverence, community, and yes, a little shade here and there… but that’s family.
From the first sound of the shofar blowing to the ushering in of the new leaders, it was clear we were witnessing a God-ordained moment. The atmosphere was charged—prophetic, emotional, and powerful beyond words.
Prophetess Dr. Cindy Trimm—whew! Sis took her time (and then some), but when you carry that level of weight in the Spirit, what can we say?
She declared and decreed, and every word she released was dripping with wisdom, authority, and the prophetic. When she said Bishop told her, “I have to do this now because I want to pass a baton, not a cane,” I lost it. That’s legacy. That’s intentionality. That’s love for the people.
This wasn’t just a leadership transition—it was the passing of a torch. It was watching two leaders, Pastors Sarah Jakes Roberts and Toure Roberts, step into their divine assignment. I remember watching them years ago when they first got married, and now here they are—set as leaders over The Potter’s House Dallas. I’m in tears even writing this.
Bishop Jakes made it plain—this is the Lord’s Church, built on the Word of God, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it.
He reflected on the many storms he’s weathered—celebrating the births, salvations, care packages, weddings, funerals, movie sets, productions, and everything in between. You could feel the weight of his years of service and sacrifice.
Bishop Jakes reflected on how he’s built churches everywhere, saying, “Even if you move to California and start working in Hollywood, you can still attend The Potter’s House.” He even joked, “Our cousin church is here to sing tonight.”
What an incredible man. What an incredible legacy.
What makes this moment so sweet is that we all know they’re co-founders—but for Sarah Jakes, this is personal. She wants this. Carrying the legacy isn’t just her assignment; it’s her heart.
And when Bishop admonished Sarah and Toure to preach the Word of God, it wasn’t just a charge—it was a mantle being transferred. He made it clear that the Word stands the test of time. He said, “I’ll still be around—but this frees me up to do what I need to get done.” Oh yes, I see more books, movies, music, and Kingdom projects headed our way.
I’m just grateful to witness a leader who refuses to hold onto power but instead mentors and prepares the next generation. No secrets. No silent exits. Just wisdom, structure, and grace.
To be honest, I hope this moment sets the tone for churches everywhere—not to become so corporate or mechanical that we lose culture and forget the power of spiritual legacy.
This was everything.
And Cora… girl, go get that husband so we can see your ordination too! 👀
